Over the coming days there are a number of events that will give you the chance to become more active in Labour, protest against a Tory government, and chat about politics.
Phonebanking – Wednesday 21 June
This evening, Momentum Sheffield will be calling our members to talk about how to become more active within the Labour Party. If you’d like to help with this, please join us from 6:30pm until 8pm at Union St. You just need to bring a phone and your enthusiasm!
Nether Edge and Sharrow By-Election – Thursday 22 June
A Council by-election is taking place in the Narrow Edge and Sharrow Ward on Thursday. Labour’s candidate, Jim Steinke, is an experienced local political campaigner and would appreciate your support. If you would like to help with the campaign on Thursday then please contact Liz Donaghy at email@example.com.
‘How to Kick Out the Tories!’ Rally – Saturday 1 July
Keeping up the mobilisation from the General Election, Momentum Sheffield and Sheffield Young Labour have organised a rally at City Hall on Saturday 1 July to discuss how Sheffield can help kick out the Tories! Join us at Barkers’ Pool at 11am – 1pm as we call for a socialist Labour government and link up our campaigns against the cuts-and-bigot-loving Tories.
A larger demonstration with the same theme will be taking place on the same day in London and we’d encourage you to attend if you can. Transport to the capital has been arranged by Sheffield People’s Assembly.
Yorkshire and the Humber Labour Party Women’s Conference – Saturday 1 July
Yorkshire and Humber Labour Party are hosting their first ever Regional Women’s Conference on Saturday 1 July. The event will be an opportunity to meet like-minded women in the Labour Party, network, receive training, and hear from some of the leading women in the Party.
The conference is open to all women in the Labour Party and will take place at the Rose Bowl at Leeds Beckett University, LS1 3HE from 9:30am until 2pm. A ticket for this event will cost £15 and includes lunch. You can find more information, and purchase a ticket, here.
Radical Readers Meeting – Wednesday 5 July
Momentum Sheffield’s Radical Readers book group will next meet at the Mugen Tea House on Wednesday 5 July from 6:30pm until 8pm. We’ll be discussing The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists by Robert Tressell. Because the novel is no longer copyright-protected, it can be found free online here.
So get reading! If you aren’t able to read all of the book, please focus on Chapter 21: ‘The Reign of Terror. The Great Money Trick’.
If you have any suggestions for Momentum campaigns, initiatives, or events then please do get in touch via firstname.lastname@example.org. We’d love to hear from you. If you would like more information about Momentum Sheffield then please check out our Facebook page, Twitter account, and website.
